Can’t Find a Spot? Here are some tips:
Everyone says that parking is so tough in the city. I beg to differ. I say be patient, read the signs and leave yourself time to take a few loops around the block.
The Charlesgate Realty Group office is located at 867 Boylston Street, in Boston’s Back Bay, at the corner of Gloucester Street and Boylston Street. In the two years we have been at this location, I have never parked more than 1 block away. And, the longest it has ever taken to find a space is maybe 15-20 minutes. Truth. The loop I take is: Boylston Street, left on Fairfield Street, left on Newbury Street, left on Gloucester Street, left on Boylston Street; repeat. I’m lazy and do not want to walk that far, especially in the winter, so I just take my time and loop a couple times until something opens up.
In Boston, the longest you can legally stay in one spot is two hours, so that means that cars are always going to be coming and going. Just be patient, pay attention to exhausts running, front tires moving and pedestrians who look like they are on a mission to their cars. Additionally, in the month of December, you can even park for free for two hours on Saturdays. The gracious Mayor Thomas Menino initiated this to help holiday shoppers.
Here’s a tip to parallel parking: pull up as close as you can to the car in front of the spot you want; line up the rear of your back window to the end of that car; turn you wheel 100% as you reverse into the spot; once your front window clears, turn your wheel 100% the other way. If there is space and you’ve done it correctly, you’ll fit in every time. And, you’re friends will be amazed! ;-)
