Sorry to ruin a perfectly fine Friday, but the City of Boston has decided to hike the property tax rate from 10.63 to 11.88 per thousand of assessed value.

Even though assessed values have declined somewhat, the average tax bill will go up $173 for single famiy homes and mor for condos (where assessed values haven't gone down as much).

Sales tax increase....check.

Property tax increase....check.

Income tax increase....check.

State services slashed....check.

hmmm....
