5 Tips to Stage Your Home During the Holidays
As we enter December and start thinking about the holiday season, there is still a ton of real estate activity! Although people are busy preparing their homes for holiday festivities, this time of year can be a great time to buy a home – or sell. When you are getting those decorations out, however, keep in mind a few tips to make your home the most attractive for potential buyers:
1. Think Safety
Make sure you consider safety above all else as you will have people coming through your home for showings and open houses. Cords should be out of the way and made to not be a tripping hazard. Also, small decorations or things that children can easily be hurt on should be kept out of reach.
2. Don’t Overdo It
When you are selling, buyers want to see your home – the finishes and fixtures – not just the pretty decor. Make sure you keep your decorating to a minimum and in a way that emphasizes the positive aspects of the home.
3. Don’t Forget Curb Appeal
The outside of your home is as important, if not more than the inside. Think about curb appeal and finding ways to spruce up the outside for the best first impression. Live in condo? Consider the common areas and hallways as well as the lobby to the building.
4. Think About Scent
Think about all of the senses – not just sight. Smell is an important factor for buyers and the holidays are a great time to address this. Have an evergreen spray or candle burning to give that warm feeling. Or, think about having cinnamon in the oven.
5. … And Sound!
Who doesn’t love holiday music? Consider having some low holiday music playing during any showings or open houses. Just like scent, it is important to appeal to all of the senses!
