About Roslindale:
Primarily an agricultural area until mid-nineteenth century, Roslindale was formally considered a “garden-suburb” of Boston, delineating it’s natural beauty that current residents are still drawn to. The establishment of the Providence Railroad, and later the streetcar, opened up the area for residential development and lead to the annexation of the town by the City of Boston as part of West Roxbury in 1873. Major residential development booms happened here in the 1890s and late twentieth century.
Roslindale boasts a demographically diverse community that is predominantly residential. Homes you may see here cover everything from small apartments to old colonials. Many of the neighborhoods’ large colonial homes are being converted into condos to accommodate the steady flow of young professionals and families to the area. Roslindale Village serves as a local shopping district centered around Adams Park, while Washington Street is the main thoroughfare of the community. Locals walk and bike in the Arnold Arboretum, a 265-acre part of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace
