An Ode to Boston Real Estate
The time has come for me to find a new place to live,
I’ve outgrown my space and my boyfriend won’t forgive
Any more purchases I make or things I bring home,
(But who doesn’t need a 6′ garden gnome?)
I call my real estate agent with my plea for help,
Who sends me listings at prices that make go, “Yelp!”
After my initial shock and terror wears away,
I find a few homes that I think will be okay.
We hit open houses together, my pre-approval in hand,
So many buyers around me I can barely find a place to stand.
From Back Bay to Beacon Hill, my head is in a whirl,
Browsing through oysters just trying to find my pearl.
Finally the light shines and I find the home I desire,
I put my offer in, confident as a cash buyer.
A few hours later, my phone buzzes with a text,
The home went $30,000 over asking – on to the next!
Frazzled, my agent and I hit the streets again,
Determined that the next offer I put in will win.
I try again and this one finally goes through,
If I don’t move soon, I am not sure what I will do!
Inspections come and go, without any hassle,
I can almost feel the weight of the keys to my castle.
Closing day comes and I am smiles from ear to ear,
The struggle was worth it, it is finally clear.
Boston, I love you and the new place I live,
And the frustration and struggle I will happily forgive,
From Fenway Park to the Pru, I will gladly roam,
For there is no other city I would rather call home.
