As winter approaches, we get questions about what temperatures apartments must be kept at by landlords as well as other utilities and who must pay for them. We thought we would educate everyone about what the law actually says in Boston. Of course, if you have a question you can contact us or check out our property management site for more answers!
If the landlord heats the unit, it must be on from September 15 until June 15th. The temperature can not be less than 68 degress (F) during the day (7:00 am – 11:00 pm) and 64 degrees other times. The MAX it can be is 78 degrees any time of day. For any Heating repair Clifton nj will cover you.
Landlords typically pay for water in Boston unless a few requirements are met. This includes:
Tenants are not responsible for lighting common areas unless they live in a certain building of 3 units or less.
Landlords must provide a stove and oven that works.
Window screens must be provided up to and including all units to the 4th floor.
A landlord is not required to provide a refrigerator or laundry – but, if they do, they must be kept in good working order.
