5 Reasons We Love Boston’s South End

 South End

Known for its artistic and diverse residents, top notch restaurants and inviting dive bars, the South End is one of Boston’s premier
neighborhoods. Helping to mold the area’s eclectic atmosphere are the Boston Center for the Arts and the Boston Ballet, each providing upper-tier talent. Within the South End’s borders, one can find a variety of housing opportunities, from the gated greens lined with charming bowfront redbrick buildings to the modern loft style units known for their spacious and open floor plans. Within this amazing neighborhood are tons of reasons to love it, but here are a few that especially warm our heart:

1. Unique Boutiques

The South End has some of the most unique shopping destinations in Boston ranging from home goods to apparel. Lining Tremont are great places when you need a gift for someone (or yourself) like motley and Uniform. Or you can get a special treat for your furry friend at one of the pet boutiques like Polka Dog Bakery which has earned a national reputation.

2. Restaurant Row

Some of the best places to eat in Boston are found in the South End with almost every type of food imaginable within a few blocks walk. Trending scenes such as Stella bring a variety of people out each night for a martini or great Italian-inspired meal. The Aquitaine Group has opened some of the most popular dining destinations throughout Boston with many found in the South End such as french inspired Gaslight or Union.

3. Variety Of Housing

Every type of housing is available in Boston’s South End from gorgeous 4-floor brownstones to spacious urban lofts. There are full-service buildings such as Atelier and Wilkes Passage that offer the ultimate in luxury and convenience. Or, if you prefer more of a “historic Boston” feel, there are gorgeous tree lined streets such as Union Park with condos and single families to please anyone. Although expensive by national standards, the South End still remains cheaper than Back Bay or Beacon Hill. (Want to know more about the market? Sign up for our Market Report!)

4. SoWa Open Market

Celebrating its 10th year, the SoWa Open Market is a great shopping destination during Boston’s warm months. The outdoor market includes an extensive arts section of indie designers, a farmer’s market, and a great selection of food choices. Plus, it is a great place to make new friends and run into old ones.

5. Art, Art, Art!

Long known as the center of Boston’s eclectic and artistic scenes, the South End continually sees the opening of new galleries that highlight the diversity of the neighborhood. The Boston Center for the Arts has studios and venues that provide workshops for people to enjoy. You can find information and tickets to openings, shows, and productions in the South End and throughout Boston through ARTS Boston.
