Finding A Pet Friendly Condo in Boston
Ever see that perfect place online and then realize later it isn’t pet friendly?
As a Realtor who first started out solely as a leasing agent, I can tell you finding pet friendly apartments in Boston (especially dog friendly) can be quite challenging. Because of that, most first time home buyers who have pets that are looking to buy a condo in Boston sometimes have the misconception that buying a pet friendly condo is just as difficult as finding a pet friendly apartment rental. But in my initial buying consultations with clients I inform them of the truth: that is not the case!
In some respects, if a Boston resident is on the fence as to buy or rent, needing a pet friendly place to live could tip him or her over to the buying side.
On average about 80% of Boston apartments for rent are not pet friendly.
On the flip side approx 80% of for sale condo listings are pet friendly – at least to some degree.
Find out what “Pet Friendly” really means…
Keep in mind if a condo listing states the property is “pet friendly” or “allows pets” they still could have restrictions (whether that is a weight maximum, breed restrictions, number of pet limitations, or something else).
Just to be on the safe side, always review the pet policies in the condo documents of any properties you are considering. Your buyer agent can help you ask the right questions before you even look at a listing to make sure you’re not wasting time and you’re sure Fido has a place to lay his head too!
