HONK! Festival in Somerville

Posted by Hillary Waldron on Tue, Oct 08, 2013

honkCheck out the HONK! Festival in Somerville from October 10th to the 13th!

"Activist street bands from around the world converge on Davis Square for the annual HONK! Festival. This year's line-up of 26 bands includes the Young Fellaz Brass Band from New Orleans, the Rude Mechanical Orchestra from Brooklyn, Perhaps Contraption from London, and Os Siderais from Rio De Janeiro. Those and other visiting ensembles will be joining locals AfroBrazil, Dirty Water Brass Band, Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band, and the Second Line Social Aid & Pleasure Society Brass Band.

The New Orleans spirit of taking music to the streets is an inspiration for the HONK! movement, so it's appropriate that the 2013 edition of the festival parade will be led by New Orleans's Original Big 7 Social Aid & Pleasure Club, a group that staged a redo of their Mother's Day parade after gunmen opened fire on the event last May.
