6th Annual Irish Pub Challenge

pub challengeThe 6th Annual Irish Pub Challenge is back! The Irish Pub Challenge will be held on Saturday, March 8th in the Faneuil Hall and Financial District area from 12:00pm-8:00pm. 

Over 5,000 people and 30 bars will be participating in the Irish Pub Challenge. Individuals and teams need to sign up online to enter. 

This year a portion of the proceeds will go towards the Sean Collier Memorial Fund. There will be prizes for the winning team, as well as a free trip to Ireland for our individual winner.

Berklee Middle Eastern Festival: The Music of Armenia

BerkleeThe Fifth Annual Berklee Middle East Music Festival will be held tonight at 8:15pm at the Berklee Performance Center

"The program will feature Perspectives Ensemble directed by flutist Sato Moughalian, presenting Dark Eyes/New Eyes, with a cappella folk trio Zulal and live painting by Kevork Mourad. Special guests include Ludo Mlado and acclaimed Armenian folk singer Aleksan Harutyunyan.

The concert will also feature music from neighboring regions, including a set of Bulgarian music with Berklee’s Pletenitsa Choir, the Ludo Mlado Dance Ensemble, the Sayat Nova Folk Dance Ensemble, and the Berklee World Strings directed by Eugene Friesen."

The three day Anime Convention is held under The New England Anime Society. The focus of the event is "to celebrate and promote Japanese animation, comics, and pop-culture."

Faneuil Hall celebrates Mardi Gras!

Faneuil HallFaneuil Hall Marketplace will be participating in its first Mardi Gras celebration on Tuesday, March 4th. The Mardi Gras celebration will be from 2:00-5:30pm.

"The event will be hosted by Mix 104.1 FM and participating local restaurants, including Cheers, Wagamama, Dick’s Last Resort, and Ned Devine’s.

Festivities include float decorating and a Mardi Gras Grand Procession led by Boston’s New Orleans-inspired brass band, the Hot Tamales. Mix 104.1 FM will also hold an Instagram contest during the celebration that will give attendees the chance to win prizes by visiting participating restaurants. "

Poetry Out Loud at the Calderwood Pavilion

Poetry Out LoudThe Poetry Out Loud Semi-Finals will be at the Calderwood Pavilion in the Boston Center for the Arts on March 1st. 

"Since its inception eight years ago, the program has introduced hundreds of thousands of high school students to recitation and performance poetry through a competition encouraging kids to memorize and perform great poetry.

This year more than 24,000 students statewide competed in preliminary rounds. The field has been narrowed to 74 semi-finalists, who will perform in four regional semi-final contests."

Mardi GrasMardi Gras is almost here and if you can't make it down to New Orleans to enjoy the festivities, there are a few places in Boston that you can check out this weekend that will be partaking in the holiday celebration. Here are a few suggestions from Boston.com

Mardi Gras party at Lir

Head to Lir on Friday, Feb. 28, and celebrate in style with beads, masks, and the traditional “King Cake,” shipped right from New Orleans. Dress in your best purple, green, and gold attire, and enjoy Mardi Gras hurricanes and food specials, including po’ boys and shrimp beignets for purchase. This event is cash bar only and there is a $20 cover. 

Mardi Gras celebration at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel

The Friends of Copley Square is hosting its fourth annual Mardi Gras celebration on Friday, Feb. 28. Attendees will enjoy a New Orleans dinner buffet, live music from the Bo Winiker Band and the Slippery Sneakers Zydeco Band, dancing, and prizes. Tickets for this event are $175.

Bourbon Street Blowout: Mardi Gras Pub Crawl in Faneuil Hall

This Mardi Gras-inspired pub crawl on Saturday, March 1, features a cash bar with specialty drinks and “Most Beads” and “Best Costume” contests. Bring your own beads, and get ready to earn your own. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Bell in Hand Tavern. Tickets are 2 for $20 and are available here.

7th Annual Mardi Gras Celebration at the Beehive

The South End’s Beehive will host a New Orleans-inspired party on Tuesday, March 4, including dancing and live jazz from the BT New Orleans 2nd Line Brass Band. Chef Marc Orfaly will create Cajun-inspired à la carte specials, featuring dishes like Louisiana shrimp and grits, pan-fried catfish, and Cajun seafood jambalaya. The Beehive’s two bars will also serve Hurricane cocktails and complimentary Mardi Gras beads will be available. Reservations are recommended.

6B Lounge in Beacon Hill has a variety of themed nights, including 90's nights on Fridays and Open Mic Nights on Sunday.

On Thursday, February 28th, 6B is switching it up and will be having their Mardi Gras Thursday. DJ Kat Scat & Mickey Grouse will be "unloading the kitchen sink" and there will be beads and masks available for a limited time.
