Hub Week - Your Brain on Art

Posted by Susie Callahan on Mon, Oct 05, 2015

"How Does Light Influence Our Creation and Perception of Images?

How does light help and inspire artists to create visual stories about places, moments, or experiences? What happens inside people’s brains when they admire art? Do all people perceive the same thing when they look at a painting or a photograph?

Neurobiologist Margaret Livingstone, Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, and photographer Sharon Harper, Professor of Visual Art, Department of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University, will explore these questions and illuminate the science and art behind seeing, perceiving, and creating images. The lecture is part of a series of cross-disciplinary events co-organized by the Harvard Brain Science Initiative, the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, and the Harvard.

This event is free! Click here to register

This, Friday,October 2nd isFashion Forward:"Preview next year’s trends at an exciting evening of art and creativity celebrating Boston Fashion Week, featuring looks from NYC-based VERGE, champions of queer style.

As part of an analysis and celebration of the ways in which art is utilized as visual activism to create visibility and positive sociopolitical change for LGBTQI communities, VERGE will present a Boston Fashion Week queer style event executive produced by dapperQ in collaboration with bklyn boihood, Posture Magazine, and DYDH Productions. The four entities formed the VERGE partnership to sponsor a total of eight independent designers whose work is systemically rooted in notions of gender nonconformity and its intersections with race, ethnicity, and culture. Featured collections were selectively chosen to embody the enigma of a vastly diverse aesthetic that is simultaneously chaotic and orderly.
